Mondays Matter

You may be thinking – “Energy – what’s that?” I watch my grandkids, who have seemingly endless reservoirs of energy and wonder how can I get some of that? Well, being 4 years old would help. But the truth is, we don’t have to settle for no or low energy all of the time.

Now you may be thinking, “I know, I need to get more sleep.” But even that is not necessarily the issue. You may get plenty of sleep and still find yourself trying to muster up the energy to perform some routine task.

Therefore I was intrigued when I recently read about a coaching company that suggests one key to better energy is to observe the 15 minutes off, 90 minutes on plan. According to their CEO, Dane Jensen, we need 15 minute breaks every 90 minutes. You see, if you are like I am, it is easy to get involved in a project on your computer – and 4 hours later you are still there.

Choosing breaks from one of four categories – physical (going for a walk), cognitive (doing a crossword puzzle), emotional (calling a friend), or spiritual (connecting with God), can be renewing in a way that makes your next 90 minute block of time much more productive and enjoyable.

It is not enough to just say, “Well, I will take a break every once in a while.” It is more beneficial if you are intentional in doing something from one of these four categories that will offset what you have been doing and provide the energy boost that is needed.

So, why not give this plan a try and see if you don’t discover an increase in both your energy (you’ll feel better) and your level of satisfaction with what you may accomplish.
