The “W” questions. Three of these are typically easier to answer than the fourth one. For example – “Who did you meet for lunch?” has a specific answer. “What did you eat at lunch? also is pretty easy to identify.” “Where did you go to lunch?” is determined by a specific location. But “Why did you go to lunch?” may have a number of possibilities.
At this point, you may be wondering what in the world I am talking about. Well, I am talking about life. If I were to interview someone towards the end of their life, and ask these questions about their life, I might get the following sequence of answers. “Who?” “Well, I married Susan.” “What?” “I did machining for a living.” “Where?” I lived in Dallas, Texas?” “Why?” ???
When it comes to how we do life, people often stumble over the “Why?” question. Typically, I get responses like, “I am not sure. I watched what my friends did and just kind of figured that was what I was supposed to do.” Hardly a solid answer to build your life around. So, my question for you today is – “What is your Why?”
Regardless of what age you may be or where you are in your life, I would encourage you to consider “Why” you do what you do? You may have a well-thought out laser focused plan. But if you are a bit fuzzy on why you live the way that you are, doing the things that you are doing, know that God put you here for a purpose and has a design for your life. If you would like to discover God’s direction for your life, I would encourage you to check out Living on Purpose: Knowing God’s Design for Your Life, available at the store on our website. Knowing your “Why” might be the difference between living and simply existing. I vote for really living!
