Sometimes thinking is hard. We have so much that seems to demand our attention on a regular basis, that we often just allow the mundane things of the day consume our brain power – either that or one of our many screens. But there are certainly bigger issues that deserve our consideration. Things like – “What in the world am I here for?” “What is life about?” But the question we have to answer for ourselves is, “Is it worth the effort?”
I understand why people are tired of thinking about difficult topics. The country is politically divided and so we may avoid that topic. People’s ideas regarding religion are all over the map, so we also steer around that topic. But is that going to serve us well?
I see people who claim to be spiritual but not religious. Yet, as I recently came across a definition of spiritual in a non-religious book, the definition read – “Spirituality is about your connection to the fundamental life questions.” Hmm – I kind of like that. Addressing questions of life, death, sin, salvation, eternity, and God are pretty fundamental. But is facing them worth the effort? I would contend that these questions are more important than all others, and are therefore certainly worth the effort.
Having a personal relationship with God, embracing how that impacts living day-to-day in a manner that honors Him and fulfills my purpose in being here, and knowing that I will have eternal life – well these question have lasting (forever) implications. And “yes”, with our eternal future on the line – it is worth the effort to address!
I know the world is a mess (God warned us that it would be), but I hope you won’t avoid giving these topics the priority in thought that they deserve.
