I recently read a heart-warming story about a 38-year-old woman who had to go to her office on January 31, 2022. There was a snowstorm that was predicted, but she felt confident that she would have time to get there and get back home before the snowstorm hit.
As she was about to leave her office, she noticed that her co-worker had left their laptop computer bag in her office. By the time she called him, he was already home. No problem – she would just drop it by his house on her way home. She figured the snow wasn’t supposed to start for a while and she would be fine.
She stopped to get gas and then dropped off her colleague’s laptop bag and quickly got back on the road. Then the snow began and within one minute she found herself in a whiteout. She referred to it as a “snownado.” She was forced to pull off to the side of the road because she couldn’t even see where the road was. She texted her colleague who was able to pinpoint her location between two farms. She then posted her location on Facebook pleading for anyone who might know who lived on those farms. Finally, someone was able to put her in touch with one of the farmers. About 45 minutes later, she saw a tall figure in a yellow rain slicker carrying a flashlight.
Her nerves were shot and she asked the elderly man if he would drive? “No.” he replied with a steady voice. “I want you to follow me in your car. You’ll be OK.” He turned around and began trudging through the snow, sure of where he was going. After getting her safely to the house, the 80-year-old man went back out to rescue two other drivers.
The next morning when they were able to get out, she realized she was only five minutes from home. “The storm had turned me around so much; I didn’t realize how close I was. Even so, I couldn’t have gone any further without risking my life.”
Why do I share this story? Because I am reminded of when the storms of life can turn us around, leaving us disoriented. Yet through the confusion, I have a Savior who is sure of where He is going, who simply says, “Follow Me.” And if I will, He will take me to safety.
