Mondays Matter

Having purpose in your life enables you to stay focused and motivated to achieve a goal. But I sometimes wonder – does the size of your purpose matter? And I think that it might. Let me explain what I mean.

If you feel it is your purpose in life is to take care of the poor in your community, volunteer to be with people through their hospice experience, or visit individuals in the prison system – are any of these purposes bigger than one another? Probably not. Or how about volunteering at your child’s school, babysitting your grandkids, or taking meals to friends recovering from surgery? Again – one is probably not bigger or more significant than the other.

However, what if a person sees their purpose as having the highest score on a video game, eating the most hotdogs in a hotdog eating contest, or being the last one to pass out in a drinking competition? While I want to be careful not to be too judgey here, but those motivators somehow don’t seem to rise to the level of the previous lists.

We have been strategically placed here by God to make a difference in people’s lives. It is both a privilege and a responsibility we have been given. We have to ask ourselves, “Is my purpose about serving me or is it about serving others?” So, I want to encourage you today to consider – How big is your purpose?
