“Not again. The car won’t start; just like yesterday.” “The baby didn’t sleep again last night.” “As usual, he forgot to stop by the grocery store for me on his way home.”
These and other irritants can drive us crazy. While they seem to be minor in nature, they often have the power (or so we think) to annoy us and, at times, even immobilize us. We may over-react which only frustrates us and those around us even more. We often lose sight of the bigger picture and hyper-focus on the momentary aggravation, which typically does not serve us well. While it is easy to treat every situation as an immediate crisis, in doing so we only compound our situation and live from one drama to the next.
William James stated, “The greatest discovery of my generation is that a human being can alter his life by altering his attitude.” In that statement we find incredible power in dealing with life. While I am not always able to change my circumstances, I am always in control of my attitude and how I choose to deal with those life situations.
As you begin this week, I encourage you to examine details of the day through the lens of the “big picture;” through the purposes of your life to which God has called you. That change in attitude and perspective can enable you to dramatically alter how you experience your circumstances.
