You may be wondering what I mean by “Where you’re planted.” So, allow me to elaborate.
I have encountered many people who are always “going to grow – someday.” They may be thinking – “I can’t reach my potential in this company.” Or, “This city will never be home. I am pining for my roots because this place will never satisfy me.” It would seem that as soon as my “conditions” are met, then I will reach my full potential. But they may miss out on some great, and enjoyable opportunities.
I have lived in a variety of locations – and they all haven’t been garden spots. For example, I spent 5 years in Houston. No offense to any Houstonians who love the place, but I remember the traffic, the pollution, the heat and humidity. This was not my favorite location. However, during those 5 years, Houston was home, and I grew and learned in so many ways. I could have just grumbled and complained about all that I didn’t like, but what a waste of time and focus that would have been. Instead, I made the most of opportunities that were afforded me. I embraced where I was planted for that season – and fully lived.
I am reminded of the Apostle Paul’s words found in Philippians 4-12-13. “I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want.” Paul is writing this while being imprisoned. It doesn’t matter to him whether he was in chains, is well fed, or resided in Houston (I had to add that). He knows the secret to being content, and here it is. “I can do all this through him (Christ) who gives me strength.”
I want to encourage you today, wherever you are planted, to grow and blossom into all that God has called you to be!
