From time to time I will see ads on TV that proclaim that the decision to buy their particular product is not a complicated one. And sometimes, that may be true. But I want to tell you a simple story today that exemplifies this idea of a decision not being complicated.
In August of this year, we took our annual trip to see our grandkids in Virginia. The two grandkids that live there are 5 (6 by the time you read this) and 7 ½. Each night, we would read stories with them. Afterwards, I would lay down with them for a few minutes, when I would talk with them for a while and then pray with them. One evening, after I prayed, we talked a little about prayer. My 6-year-old grandson said, “I want to pray.” I replied, “That would be great.” After a few seconds of silence, I asked him if he was going to pray. He replied, “I’m going to pray in my brain.” I said that would be fine. I think he was a little intimidated to pray out loud.
However, after praying, he proceeded to tell us all the things that he thanked God for. He had quite a list. I told him that it sounded like a good prayer. As, we lay there for a few minutes, he said, “I think that God just talked to me.” I responded with, “What did He say to you?” He replied, “He told me that He loves me. I heard it in my heart and then it went to my ear.” My heart melted, as I have no doubt that God spoke to him.
I am reminded – “Jesus called the children to him and said, ‘Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.” (Luke 18:16-17)
