Mondays Matter

I was reminded of the importance of “showing up” this morning at my men’s Bible study. One of my friends shared about a visit he made to the Veteran’s cemetery. As he was about to leave, he heard a woman sobbing at another grave site. He went over to check on her and wound up talking with her for 45 minutes and was able to offer words of comfort. He could have walked away without saying anything – but he showed up.

Recently, my step-son’s car battery died. He was able to get the attention of a man and a young boy. The gentleman helped him jump start his car. Bradley offered the individual some money, but he refused to accept any. Then Bradley noticed the young boy was wearing a hockey jersey of a team that he was familiar with. Bradley has a hockey stick and jersey business. He offered to make the boy a custom hockey stick. The man was not related to the boy but was trying to be a help to the boy’s family, who had been through some very difficult and challenging circumstances. Not only was Bradley able to provide the boy with a hockey stick but he was able to tap into a hockey organization that could provide some financial assistance for the family. Bradley could have just said “Thanks” and been on his way – but he showed up.

William Shatner said, “The lesson that has made a difference in my life is that success always begins with showing up.”

How can you “show up” today and allow God to use you to make a difference in somebody’s life?
