I recently finished reading a book by bestselling author, Matthew Kelly. Towards the latter part of the book he discussed three appointments that we all have. They aren’t appointments with a prospective boss, or your future wife’s parents, or even someone in law enforcement. They are not complicated but rather are simple, clear, and direct. Their straightforwardness caught my attention as well how vital they are. Today I want to discuss the first appointment that we all have to keep. It is non-negotiable.
The first appointment is with ourselves. It is surprising the lengths that we will go to trying to avoid this appointment. Checking in on a daily basis with ourselves to see how we are doing in relation to our reason for getting out of bed every day is important. Being honest about who we are and whether or not there are things missing that we need in order to be genuine, are significant.
Now, I guess technically, of the three appointments, this is one that we can ignore. But the danger is that the quality of our relationship with others is directly connected to our relationship with ourselves. As Kelly states, “When we avoid this appointment, we limit all of our relationships.” It is essential that we really know who we are. While I am not intending to plug my book, I will at least say that if you would like to discover more clearly who you are, you might want to click on the store button below and order a copy the new book “Who Are You.” It just might be helpful in keeping the appointment with yourself.
