Last time I raised the issue of questions that most all of us have asked ourselves at one time or another, such as – “Who am I?” “What matters most?” and “Why am I here?” Finding answers to these questions enables us to approach life with both passion and purpose. But too often we are so busy making excuses of either being too young or too old that we never find and fulfill our purpose. Yet, you were put here to make a difference, like those before you, the time to do so is NOW!
Look at some of the accomplishments of those who may have been considered too young or too old. Mozart was eight years old when he wrote his first symphony. Ralph Waldo Emerson was fourteen years old when he enrolled at Harvard. Bill Gates was nineteen when he co-founded Microsoft. Thomas Jefferson was thirty-three when he helped write the Declaration of Independence. Henry Ford was fifty when he started his first manufacturing assembly line. Winston Churchill was sixty-five when he became Britain’s prime minister before going to war with Hitler. Benjamin Franklin was seventy-nine when he invented bifocal eyeglasses
You may think, “Well, those are all famous people.” But I would submit that they are famous because they didn’t make excuses but instead made a difference. It is so easy for most people to sleepwalk their way through life. But that is certainly not what we are called to do.
So, my question is simple. You are as unique, special and capable as anyone on the above list. You were put here with purpose. What will you do – make excuses or make a difference? I hope you choose the latter.
