Your first thought after looking at that question might be, “Well, of course I would. Who wouldn’t?” And I would agree with you. Yet I see so many people day after day who struggle to find even little bits of satisfaction in life. They may attempt to make more money or accumulate more stuff – but they come up feeling empty and lacking.
So, what is the answer? What will bring us satisfaction and fulfillment? Well, that is a big question with a variety of components to it. But I am reminded of Jesus words to His followers when He said, “Love one another as I have loved you.” (John 15) And when we live with that kind of focus, it not only benefits the one we love but we also receive benefits.
In a recent Harvard University study it was discovered that people who took just two minutes a day to write a message, (this could be a text, an email, a card, or even a hand written note) to someone to whom they are close, “score significantly higher in optimism and life satisfaction” after only 21 days of doing this. In addition to that, those writing a message received some very positive messages in return.
Now I know that this effort won’t necessarily bring satisfaction to all areas of your life. But if loving someone with two minutes of your time a day would contribute to feeling more optimistic and more satisfied than you would otherwise, isn’t to worth a try? Let’s see what we might accomplish in the next 21 days!
