If you are a fan of The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, you have probably seen his sketch “Thank You Notes.” In this he often pays tribute to all kinds of unsung people, places and things. And no doubt, being mentioned on national TV is libel to be greatly appreciated.
Think about when you have had others tell you “thank you.” How did it feel? It may have been a card, a sticky note, an email, a phone call – there are countless ways that can be expressed. But a sincere, especially unexpected “thank you” can add a spring to your step or perhaps even give validation to a career.
I have kept a file for years that is simply labeled “Rainey Day.” In it, over the years, I have placed cards and notes just such as those I have described. It is so easy to forget the difference we may have made in someone’s life, and having that point of reference can be an important reminder.
We all know how it feels to be appreciated but we often forget to express to others that same sincere thanks. So, my encouragement to you today is to think about who you need to thank. Then tell them – perhaps with a “Thank You” note.
